José Luis Oreiro has a B.A degree in economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992), a master degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1996) and a PhD in the economics of industry and technology from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2000). He is currently Associate Professor of the Department of Economics of the University of Brasilia, Level IB Researcher at National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CPQq) and Associate Researcher at the Center for Studies of the New Developmentalism of Fundação Getúlio Vargas de São Paulo. He was president of the Brazilian Keynesian Association (2013-2015). He was professor at Institute of Economics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2013-2017), the Department of Economics of the University of Brasilia (2008-2013) and the Federal University of Paraná (2003-2008), where he served as director of the Center for Economic Research (CEPEC), vice coordinator of the graduate program in economic development (2004-2008) and coordinator of the Economics & Technology Bulletin (2005-2007), of which he was the founder. He has experience in economics, with emphasis on macroeconomic dynamics, working mainly on the following topics: Capital accumulation, economic growth, monetary policy autonomy, interest rate and non-linear dynamics. He has published more than 100 articles in scientific journals in Brazil and abroad, for example, the Journal of Post Keynesian Economics, International Review of Applied Economics, Investigacion Economica, Revista Brasileira de Economia, Brazilian Review of Political Economy, Economia & Sociedade  and Estudos Econômicos. According to the REPEC criteria he is among the 10% most productive researchers in economics in Brazil. It is organiser of the books "Agenda Brazil: Economic policies for growth with price stability" published by Monole in 2003, "financial system: An analysis of the Brazilian banking sector" published by Campus in 2007, "Monetary Policy, Central banks and inflation targeting: theory and Brazilian Experience ", published by FGV Editora in 2009 and" An Assessment of the Global Impact of Financial Crisis "published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2010. He is co-author of the book "Developmental Macroeconomics: New developmentalism as a growth strategy" published by Routledge in 2015 and author of the book "Macroeconomics of Development: A Keynesian Perspective" published by LTC in 2016.
